美式用法是Third time's a charm. 英式則為Third time lucky.
charm指的是魔咒。

原本的英文解釋是
The belief that the third time something is attempted is more likely to succeed than the previous two attempts. It is also used as a good luck charm - spoken just before trying something for the third time. (想嘗試的事情第三遍會比前兩遍更容易成功；也可以當作招引好運的魔咒，當人們在嘗試某事第三次時，常會說出此句「魔咒」祈求好運)--出自The Phrase Finder。
